Hippocrene Cooks and Books: Five Cookbook authors trade cuisines for a day

Today we'll be sharing a fun blog swap from five of our cookbook authors! Each author will be reviewing a different type of cuisine and sharing a recipe from a fellow HB author's cookbook. Even better, they will each be giving away a copy the cookbook to their readers!

Gourmand World Cookbook Awards & Paris Cookbook Fair

Two of our cookbooks, India: A Culinary Journey by Prem Kishore and The New Ukrainian Cookbook by Annette Ogrodnik Corona, have continued on to "Best in World" in their respective categories at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards this month. They are representing the U.S.A. and competing against books published in other countries! The Iraqi Family Cookbook won "Best in U.S.A." for Best Arab Cuisine Book, but sadly was not a finalist for Best in World.

The awards will take place under the Pyramid of the Louvre Museum, in the 1400-seat theater of the Carrousel du Louvre on Saturday, February 23rd. There will be 171 countries participating this year.

The Paris Cookbook Fair, which is the annual international cookbook trade meeting, will occur at the same time and location as the Gourmand Awards.

As the United States is the "Country of Honor" at the fair this year, it's only appropriate some of our authors showcase their talent. One of the authors of Muy Bueno, Veronica Gonzalez-Smith, and  Annette Ogrodnik Corona (The New Ukrainian Cookbook), will be attending the fair and representing their books among foodies and publishing professionals from around the globe. Corona will also be at a book signing this Saturday at Barnes & Noble Center Valley from 1-3pm for those who can't make it to the City of Lights.

We want to congratulate the authors on all of their successes and wish them good luck in the coming weeks!

Two Titles Win Gourmand Awards!

Two of our titles have won in their respective categories for the United States in the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards! Congratulations to The New Ukrainian Cookbook for winning Best East European Cuisine Book and to The Iraqi Family Cookbook for winning Best Arab Cuisine Book!
 

The Gourmand Awards are held every year and judges choose winners from various countries for each category. The winners from different countries then compete for "Best in the World," which is where our two titles now stand!

The Iraqi Family Cookbook was published in July 2012 and includes a collection of recipes from generations of author Kay Karim's family, as well as all the regions of Iraq. This book serves as a tribute to her homeland's cuisine and includes interesting side bars, notes, family anecdotes, and a guide to spices and ingredients. Iraqi cooking dates back 5,000 years to ancient Mesopotamia and this healthy diet rich in vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains is considered the world's oldest cuisine.
